Four years ago, Lamar Odom was a pretty big name in the NBA. He was the 6th man of the year for the Los Angeles Lakers, and he was a big part of two championship teams. The versatile forward was also making a name for himself as a celebrity, as he married into the Kardashian family and was featured on their show on a consistent basis. It seems crazy to think back on that and see what Odom is up to these days. In fact, most don’t seem to have much of a clue.
After success with the Lakers in 2010-2011, he was traded the following season to the Dallas Mavericks. He quickly turned into a liability in daily fantasy basketball instead of a star. That ended up being the beginning of the end of his NBA career. He spent time with the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks after his stint in Dallas, but he was rarely a factor. He hasn’t been in the NBA since the end of the 2013-2014 season.
The marriage to Khloe Kardashian started to fall apart, and since he was now a crossover celebrity, tabloids started to come out with all kinds of stories. They would get divorced at the end of 2013, and alleged drug use was a major reason why the couple did not last.
Odom is now 35 years old, and his NBA career appears to be over. He could possibly try to go overseas to land another lucrative contract, but the concern right now is his long-term health and well being. He has been going through drug and alcohol abuse programs to turn his life around, but recently he was dealt another personal blow when his long-time friend Jamie Sangouthai passed away. Odom has had a lot of highs and lows in his life so far, but it’s up to him how he decides to spend his post-NBA life.
People aren’t going to be starting him anytime soon in daily fantasy basketball, but hopefully we won’t be seeing his name in negative headlines only.
